feng shui |
The ancient Chinese science of placement, which seeks to free the flow of energy (or qi) and create a balance of yin and yang in our surroundings. In many parts of the world, Feng Shui (pronounced "fung shway") experts are consulted in the planning of buildings or when someone purchases a new home. A practitioner might recommend moving your furniture, changing the colors with which you surround yourself, or removing clutter.

friction |
Circular rolling movement. The performance of this technique is used with the thumbs, fingertips, palms, or heel of the hands, depending on the shape of the body part being massaged. Friction movements involve taking the more superficial layers of flesh and moving them against the deeper tissues. This is done in such a way that it also increases heat, and the metabolic rate increases as well as the rate at which exchanges take place between cells and the interstitial fluids (fluids within or between the tissues of an organ or body part.)
Friction also helps to separate the tissues and to break down tissue bundles. Friction aids in absorption of the fluid around the joints, and has a marked influence on the circulation and glandular activity of the skin.
